Level Apartment
Slovenian practice OFIS architects have recently completed 'level apartment'.
An apartment within an art nouveau structure in the historic center of ljubljana, slovenia. Dating from 1902, the 5 storey residential block by architect C.M. koch overlooks an adjacent square within a layered district of residential and mixed use buildings. Previous an enclosed space, the new layout features an open arrangement with areas instead are defined by elevating rooms to varied heights. Retaining only the dominant structural partitions, the continuous circulation maintains a feeling of a unified entity comprised of smaller entities. Storage and furniture were combined into the floors and walls using similar materials to connect each room. Steps to the sleeping and shower levels to conceal additional storage, adding to the uninterrupted flow. Vintage doors, windows and details were retained and refurbished maintaining the character of the original architecture.
